How to Choose a Toothbrush
Compare soft bristles, manual brushes, and powered brushes with practical guidance from dental organizations.
Start with soft bristles
For most people, a soft-bristled brush is a comfortable choice. A small head can make it easier to reach back teeth. Look for a handle that feels secure and a shape that lets you reach every surface without straining.
Manual or powered?
Both can work when used consistently with good technique. A powered brush may help people who have difficulty making small movements, and some models include pressure or timing feedback. Choose a tool you will use correctly twice a day.
Whichever brush you choose, use fluoride toothpaste and gentle pressure. Replace a brush or brush head when bristles fray, or at least every three to four months.
